About Johnny Wilkinson

I run the All Action, No Plot Movie Club. We're a movie club with over 150 members that meets once or twice a month to see the latest, loudest and dumbest action blockbuster. I also have just launched the All Action No Plot Movie Blog (or All Action No Blog for short), as a news blog which gathers all the latest movie news, trailers, casting news and release dates for all the upcoming action movies.

Django Unchained trailer to show before Prometheus

As if you needed an excuse to see Ridley Scott’s Prometheus next week, here’s another.

It’s been reported that the first official trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming western Django Unchained will play before Prometheus in theatres.

Described by Tarantino as a ‘southern’ rather than a ‘western’ due to the story being set in the deep south of the US, Django Unchained stars Leonardo di Caprio, Jamie Foxx, Christophe Waltz, Samuel L Jackson, Sacha Baren Cohen, Kurt Russell and Don Johnson.

Django Unchained has a release date in the US of the 25th December 2012, the UK on the 18th January 2013 and Australia on the 26th January 2013.

Gary Oldman signs up for Robocop remake

Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic Robocop will long remain etched in the memory of all Gen-X’ers as one of the movies of our childhood.

So I’m a little concerned about the decision to do a remake.

On the other and, I must confess that I am looking forward to the remake of another movie from my youth, the upcoming Total Recall. So I guess I should give this one a chance.

Also, with Gary Oldman having just signed on, the prospect starts to look a lot brighter. The veteran British star can always be relied upon to bring a bit of class to a movie. In this one he will apparently play Norton, the scientist who creates Robocop.

The other star currently signed up is up-and-coming Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman, best known for his role as Stephen Holder in the US remake of the Danish crime drama The Killing.

Relatively unknown Brazilian director Jose Padilha is set to direct.

Robocop has a tentative release date for the US and UK of the 9th August 2013.

New posters for The Dark Knight Rises

With not long to go now til the release of Christopher Nolan’s hugely-anticipated The Dark Knight Rises, it’s with great excitement that the new character posters have been received.

Each of the three main characters – Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman – are represented in their own poster, and there are two distinct styles.

This first set has the characters against a midnight blue backdrop with rain falling, and a The Legend Ends tag line.

The second set is much darker and menacing, with the characters starting to break apart along their edges (much like the earlier skyscraper teaser poster), against a bold RISE…

The Dark Knight Rises hits Australian theatres first (I know, hard to believe!), with a release date of the 19th July 2012. The US, the UK and Canada all follow a day later with a release date of the 20th July 2012.

Skyfall trailer and release dates

We’re still five months out from Bond 23 and the first teaser trailer is already upon us.

The great news is, the trailer doesn’t disappoint. In fact it’s a cracker, and it looks like it’ll put Bond back on top after the stumble (in my opinion) that was Quantum of Solace.

With The Bourne Legacy on the way, this latest Bond needs to be on top of his game, and I’m impressed enough by the trailer to be reassured.

We see plenty of Daniel Craig as Bond of course, plus glimpses of Judi Dench as M and Ralph Fiennes as what looks like a British Government official. There’s also a shaggy-haired figure silhouetted against flames who must surely be Javier Bardem.

Excited? Check out the trailer.

Skyfall has a typically early release date for the UK (they always get Bond movies first, of course) of the 26th October 2012, whilst Canada and the US have a release date of the 9th November 2012. Australia lags behind with a 22nd November 2012 release date.

The Expendables 2, trailer and release dates

If ever a movie epitomised what The All Action No Plot Movie Blog stood for, then 2010′s The Expendables was that movie!

Well, now it’s back, with the appropriately named The Expendables 2. Even the title harks back to those action flicks of the 80′s and 90′s.

Apart from the mindless action, gunfights and explosions the one thing that made the original stand out from the crowd was it’s cast. Well, believe it or not they’ve just made the cast list for the sequel even better…

The closing credits in the trailer say it all. “Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren, Norris, Crews, Couture, Hemsworth”. Then the next page continues with “also Van Damme, with Willis and Schwarzenegger”.

Yep, you did read that alright. And yes, that is Norris as in Chuck Norris.

Check out the scene with Schwarzenegger and Willis in the Smart car. Classic!

The Expendables 2 has a release date of the 17th August 2012 for Canada, the US and the UK, and a release date of the 30th August 2012 for Australia.

Vin Diesel in Riddick

Vin Diesel’s Riddick – the much-anticipated sequel to Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick – has finished shooting and is now in post-production, ready for a 2013 release.

Vin himself has even been kind enough to post the following movie still on his Facebook page.

In terms of plot, according to Total Film “The new film finds Riddick cast away and left for dead on a barren, sun-scorched planet, upon which he appears to be the only living creature. Unhappily for him, however, that assessment soon turns out to be incorrect.

Pursued by a race of lethal alien predators, Riddick is left with no other option but to set off an emergency beacon… a beacon that alerts a group of ruthless mercenaries to his whereabouts. If the aliens don’t get him first, this lot surely will!”

Sound good? Stay posted to The All Action No Plot Movie Blog for updates on release dates when they become available!

The Amazing Spiderman, new trailer and release dates

I must confess, I’m still not completely sold on the new Spiderman ‘re-boot’.

Like a lot of you out there I was initially confused as to why the series needed a reboot in the first place. To be honest I’m still a bit confused. And the previous trailer didn’t convince me.

Enter the latest trailer. To be fair, this one impresses me more. If only for lots of scenes with Rhys Ifans as The Lizard. Still not sold on Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, but I think Ifans can possibly lift the movie.

Am I being a bit harsh? Any Spidey fans out there? Tell me what you think…

The Amazing Spiderman has a release date of 3rd July 2012 for Canada and the US, and a release date of the 4th July 2012 for the UK and Australia.

Colin Farrell in Seven Psychopaths

This one looks good.

A black comedy from Martin McDonagh (director of In Bruges), it stars Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Tom Waits, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson, Abbie Cornish and Olga Kurylenklo as the titular seven psychos.

Farrell plays a writer who unwittingly becomes involved in criminal goings-on as he tries to inject some authenticity to his unfinished Seven Psychopaths script.

If the excellent In Bruges is anything to go by, then I have high hopes for this movie. I like McDonagh’s style, and I’m a big fan of Farrell, an actor with great comedic talent. Coupled with such an excellent cast, Seven Psychopaths has got great potential.

Seven Psychopaths has a US release date of the 2nd November 2012. No dates are yet available for either the UK or Australia.

New trailer for The Dark Knight Rises

One word. Wow!

Now we’re talking. A proper trailer that actually begins to unravel a bit more of the story, and shed some light on the mystery that has surrounded the build-up to Christopher Nolan’s finale to his Batman trilogy.

We finally gets good look at Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake. Of course, we still see plenty of Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman.

Personally, I think the trailer looks great! The tone and mood couldn’t be further away from the all-conquering Avengers, but I think this is a good thing. Nolan once again drops the comic-book style of the Marvel productions for something more dark and gritty.

Once again, Australia sees this one first with a release date of 19th July 2012. The US and the UK have a release date of 20th July 2012.
