John Cusack and Luke Evans in The Raven

It seems a shame that this movie hasn’t received the attention that it probably deserves. It’s certainly not had anywhere near the marketing and hype of the similarly-themed Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Of course, I imagine the star power of Sherlock Holmes’ Robert Downey Jnr and Jude Law had a lot to do with that movie’s popularity. And of course the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson have a certain attraction about them that unfortunately someone like the real-life Edgar Allen Poe can’t quite match.

That being said, this does look like a cracker. John Cusack plays the famous 19th Century author and poet Poe – famous for ‘creepy’ stories such as The Pit and the Pendulum, The Fall of the House of Usher and The Raven – and is joined by Luke Evans as Detective Fields.

The excellent supporting cast includes Brendan Gleeson and Brendan Coyle. It will be directed by James McTiegue most famous for V for Vendetta, but with impressive credentials as Second Unit Dorector on The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
