The Hobbit release date confirmed, to screen in IMAX

Great news for lovers of the work of JRR Tolkien, is that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will screen in IMAX. Not so great news however, is the news that it will screen in 3D.

Of course, you might already have seen that IMAX is now showing the trailer for The Hobbit before its current feature films so you can get a glimpse of Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin and his dwarf companions, and of course Gollum.

One thing to note however. The IMAX trailer and poster is currently displaying a release date of Dec 14th 2012. Note that this advertised release date is for the US and UK release, and NOT the Australian release.

The Australian release date is still the 26th December. From what I understand New Line Cinema have yet to make Australian-specific trailers and posters for the movie, and IMAX are clearly using the US versions for the time being.

To be honest I’m a bit disappointed with this. Unless the plan later this year is to bring forward the Australian release date to the 14th December to coincide with everyone else (which I doubt is the case), then to advertise the wrong release date for such a significant movie is a bit slack to say the least!

And do we really need it in 3D? Let me know what you think?

  1. 26 December? I can’t. I just can’t. That’s just…no. That means staying off the frickin internet for two weeks just to avoid spoilers. D:

As for 3D, well, 3D makes me throw up so…that sucks too.

  2. Hey, it’s still a long time til Devember, so maybe things will change and they’ll bring the movie forward in line with the rest of the world! Anyway, it’s not as if you don’t know how the story goes… 🙂

    1. I am praying that it’s not finalised yet. This is the biggest movie release of my life. The release of the LOTR movies was pretty big, me being such a huge Tolkien fan and all (even at the tender age of ten). But now that the world knows what Peter Jackson can do… I am so psyched for this film, man.
