Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie joins cast of Star Wars VII

So the word is that Gwendoline Christie is the newest addition to the cast of the new Star Wars movie.

No doubt that this will be welcome news to the millions of fans out there of HBO’s Game of Thrones. English Actress Christie plays Brienne of Tarth, seen most recently on the hit TV show battling The Hound during the last episode of Season 04.

At a towering 6′ 3″ in height, Christie certainly has the stature that in my opinion could suit any number of character types in the upcoming space extravaganza. I for one will be really interested in learning what role she has actually landed.

Star Wars Episode VII, directed by J.J.Abrams and starring John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson and Lupita Nyong’o, as well as returning stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, has a tentative Australian release date for 18th December 2015.

Gwendoline Christie, aka Brienne of Tarth

One of the more popular search terms on The All Action No Plot Movie Blog is for the actor who plays fan-favourite Brienne of Tarth in HBO's Game of Thrones.

I'm talking of course, about Gwendoline Christie.

I must confess it's almost criminal that I've overlooked writing a post about the English actor before now. In fact, the post made last year announcing that she had been cast for season 2 is still one of my blog's more popular posts, even after all this time.

There aren't many bio details out there, besides that Gwendoline was born in the South Downs, England and that she was a semi-professional gymnast as a youth. She has a couple of theatre roles under her belt, but not much in the way of TV or movie work, besides small roles.

However, she is probably most well-known for being the subject of Australian portrait photographer Polly Borland's Bunny Nose project. This rather odd and creepy set of shots portrays the actress in a series of poses often wearing nothing more than tights and bizarre bunny costumes.

Gwendoline was recently intervewed at the London Film and Comic Con, see the interview here.

Game of Thrones Season 3 is due for premiere on HBO on March 31st 2013.

First photos of the new Game of Thrones characters

Well it’s not long now at all until the new season of Game of Thrones kicks off. April 1st to be exact.

Up til now there hasn’t been an awful lot of information released to whet the fans appetites. Of course they released the names of the actors playing all the new characters for the new season, but asides from a couple of behind-the-scenes teasers, there hasn’t been much else for us to get too excited about. Until now…

HBO have released official photos of some of the new characters, and I must say they’re great. We’ve known about the actors playing these characters for some time now, but to actually see me in the flesh is another matter entirely.

Let’s kick off with Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) himself, accompanied of course by none other than Melisandre (Carice Van Houten).

Next up we have Brienne the Beauty (Gwendoline Christie).

Stannis’ right-hand man, Davis the Onion Knight (Liam Cunningham).

The father of Theon, and Lord of the Iron Islands, Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide).

How’s that for starters? Satisfied? Stay posted for more shots when I get them…

Game of Thrones Season 2, all the new cast members: Part 4, Margaery and Brienne

And finally I round off my recap of all the new cast members for Game of Thrones with two of the most important new characters, Margaery and Brienne. Plus a few odds and ends thrown in for good measure…

Lady Margaery Tyrell : Natalie Dormer

In the role of Lady Margaery Tyrell, HBO have cast Natalie Dormer. I think this is an inspired choice – anyone who has seen Natalie’s performances as Anne Boleyn in The Tudors will realise what a good fit she is for this role. You might also have seen her recently briefly seduce Chris Evans in Captain America.

Brienne of Tarth : Gwendoline Christie

Certainly one of the more popular characters to be introduced in Season 2 is Brienne of Tarth, or “Brienne the Beauty”, who will be played by Briitsh actress Gwendoline Christie. Gwendoline seems a good fit for Brienne, clocking in at a statuesque 6’3″, and although some fans have reservations that she may not be “ugly” enough, I personally don’t think this will be an issue once the make-up and costume department get their hands on Gwendoline.

See above… She’s not small!

Xaro Xhoan Daxos : Nonso Anozie

British actor Nonso Anonzie will play the Qartheen merchant prince Xaro Xhoan Daxos who aids Daenerys in Qarth. A stage actor, Anonzie is most famous for being the youngest person to ever play William Shakespeare’s King Lear and for his award-winning performance of Othello. He has had minor roles in Atonement and Guy Ritchie’s Rock-n-Rolla.

Pyat Pree : Ian Hanmore

Pyat Pree, a warlock is one of the three representatives of Qarth, alongside Xaro Xhoan Daxos, who meets Daenerys. He will be played by Scottish actor Ian Hanmore, mostly known for small television roles in shows such as Doctor Who, Waking the Dead and Shameless.

Jaqen H’ghar : Tom Wlaschiha

Jaqen H’ghar, a member of the Faceless Men of Braavos who meets Arya on her trip north to the wall with Yoren will be played by German Actor Tom Wlaschiha. Wlaschiha is relatively unknown outside of his native Germany, having appeared in many TV shows and movies there.

Game of Thrones: new cast members for Season 2

Now, strictly speaking I shouldn’t be posting any news on HBO’s Game of Thrones since A) its not a movie, and B) it’s most definitely got plot in abundance, but I’m such a fan that I’m going to anyway. Besides, if it was a movie I’m pretty sure it would be an All Action No Plot favourite. As we all know, Season 1 of Game of Thrones was a huge success, and for those fans of George RR Martin’s books (like myself), it was a dream come true. The first season has just finished airing, but already the fan forums and news channels are full of gossip and news on casting choices for season 2. There are a lot of new characters to be introduced for season 2, and already two have been confirmed.

In the role of Margaery Tyrell, HBO have cast Natalie Dormer. I think this is an inspired choice – anyone who has seen Natalie’s performances as Anne Boleyn in The Tudors will realise what a good fit she is for this role.
Natalie DormerThe other confirmed cast member is of Brienne of Tarth, or “Brienne the Beauty”, who will be played by Briitsh actress Gwendoline Christie. Gwendoline seems a good fit for Brienne, clocking in at a statuesque 6’3″, and although some fans have reservations that she may not be “ugly” enough, I personally don’t think this will be an issue once the make-up and costume department get their hands on Gwendoline.
