New posters for The Dark Knight Rises

With not long to go now til the release of Christopher Nolan’s hugely-anticipated The Dark Knight Rises, it’s with great excitement that the new character posters have been received.

Each of the three main characters – Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman – are represented in their own poster, and there are two distinct styles.

This first set has the characters against a midnight blue backdrop with rain falling, and a The Legend Ends tag line.

The second set is much darker and menacing, with the characters starting to break apart along their edges (much like the earlier skyscraper teaser poster), against a bold RISE…

The Dark Knight Rises hits Australian theatres first (I know, hard to believe!), with a release date of the 19th July 2012. The US, the UK and Canada all follow a day later with a release date of the 20th July 2012.

New trailer for The Dark Knight Rises

One word. Wow!

Now we’re talking. A proper trailer that actually begins to unravel a bit more of the story, and shed some light on the mystery that has surrounded the build-up to Christopher Nolan’s finale to his Batman trilogy.

We finally gets good look at Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake. Of course, we still see plenty of Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman.

Personally, I think the trailer looks great! The tone and mood couldn’t be further away from the all-conquering Avengers, but I think this is a good thing. Nolan once again drops the comic-book style of the Marvel productions for something more dark and gritty.

Once again, Australia sees this one first with a release date of 19th July 2012. The US and the UK have a release date of 20th July 2012.

Australian release date for The Dark Knight Rises

Australia will see Christopher Nolan’s third movie in his Batman series – The Dark Knight Rises – a day before the rest of the world.

Taking advantage of its geographical location, Australians (along with our brothers in New Zealand) will be able to catch the highly anticipated blockbuster on July 19th. The US and the UK will have to wait until the 20th July before getting their chance.

Not only is that great news, but the icing on the cake is that IMAX will be screening the movie from the 19th also, so you can watch it on seven stores screens as well. Coupled with the fact that IMAX will be showing some 50 minutes of special IMAX-shot footage (the movies predecessor The Dark Knight had roughly half the amount), and the news couldn’t get any better. That’s 50 mins of 70mm film! And no 3D in sight.

“Gotham, take control of your city…” new Dark Knight Rises trailer

So many of you will probably now already seen the IMAX preview of The Dark Knight Rises, and in doing so lined Tom Cruise’s pockets along the way.

Yes it looked spectacular on the giant screen, but don’t you think it was rather confusing, what with the mid-air plane-jacking and blood transfusion-ing?

Well, for those of you who don’t plan to see the new Mission Impossible or even the new Sherlock Holmes in the New Year, the movie studio have been kind enough to release a new official trailer.

A different one to the big screen preview and much less confusing, it prominently features Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and of course Tom Hardy as chief protagonist Bane. All of Christopher Nolan’s favorites such as Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Michael Caine make an appearance, as well as Gary Oldman of course as Jim Gordon.

It does look like it’ll be a cracker, and will more than likely surpass The Dark Knight and Avatar as the biggest grossing movie of all time. Big call? Sure, but I think it has all the credentials, and is certainly building the hype in a big way, still 7 months out from release.

The Dark Knight Rises will hit theatres in Australia on the 19th July 2012, and in the UK and US on the 20th July.

IMAX to screen preview of The Dark Knight Rises before new Mission Impossible

Yes it’s official, a six-minute preview of Christopher Nolan’s third and final Batman installment The Dark Knight Rises will be screened before all IMAX screenings of Tom Cruise’s new blockbuster Mission : Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Six minutes is a heck of a trailer! For that, I’ll be expecting to see plenty of Tom Hardy as Bane and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Mission : Impossible – Ghost Protocol (which also stars Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg) opens in Australia on the 15th December, in the US on the 16th December, and the UK on the 26th December. Expect big queues as the combined drawing power of Tom Cruise and Batman pull in the pre-Christmas crowds.

The Dark Knight Rises isn’t due to hit movie theatres til 19th July 2012 in Australia and the 20th July 2012 in the US and the UK.

The Dark Knight Rises Official Trailer

So finally Warner Bros Pictures has officially release the trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. After days of getting frustrated at all the fan-made fakes on You Tube and shaky iPhone-captured efforts that have been floating around, I’m glad this is finally out there. As we all know, this trailer premiered before the new Harry Potter movie this week, and there’s been lots of speculation that the Harry Potter box office has been artificially inflated by all the Batman fans. Whether or not that’s actually true is debatable – I think Harry, Hermione and Ron can look after their own ticket sales, don’t you?

Either way, I’m left a little underwhelmed by this trailer, to be perfectly honest. Sure, I might feel differently if I’d seen it on the big screen, but really its not doing a heck of a lot for me. I wanted more of Tom Hardy as Bane, for a start! Anyhow, I’ll let you be the judge…

Teaser Poster for The Dark Knight Rises

Ah, now we’re talking. With Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises due to hit movie theatres next Summer (note, Nothern Hemisphere summer!), the news, pics and trailers are going to start coming thick and fast in the coming months. And to kick it all off? The first official teaser poster.

The Dark Knight Rises
Pretty good, eh? Of course, you noticed the bat symbol made out against the tops of the crumbling skyscapers, didn’t you?

Keep posted for more…
