The Expendables 2, trailer and release dates

If ever a movie epitomised what The All Action No Plot Movie Blog stood for, then 2010’s The Expendables was that movie!

Well, now it’s back, with the appropriately named The Expendables 2. Even the title harks back to those action flicks of the 80’s and 90’s.

Apart from the mindless action, gunfights and explosions the one thing that made the original stand out from the crowd was it’s cast. Well, believe it or not they’ve just made the cast list for the sequel even better…

The closing credits in the trailer say it all. “Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren, Norris, Crews, Couture, Hemsworth”. Then the next page continues with “also Van Damme, with Willis and Schwarzenegger”.

Yep, you did read that alright. And yes, that is Norris as in Chuck Norris.

Check out the scene with Schwarzenegger and Willis in the Smart car. Classic!

The Expendables 2 has a release date of the 17th August 2012 for Canada, the US and the UK, and a release date of the 30th August 2012 for Australia.

Teaser Trailer for The Expendables 2

Ok, so my last post revealed the new movie poster for The Expendables. Well, today I’m going to show you the new teaser trailer.

To be fair, it is only a teaser and doesn’t give anything away. At the beginning there is a snippet of dialogue between Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone and then some very quick snapshots of the impressive cast. And well, that’s about it.

Have a look for yourself…

The Expendables 2 will be released in the US on the 17th August 2012 and in Australia on the 23rd August.

Need I say any more?

Statham again, with a trailer for new movie Safe

Sure, it looks just like any other Jason Statham actioner. Plenty of fighting, plenty of shooting, one man against a whole army… but hey, that’s what the All Action No Plot Movie Blog is all about. And we love Statham.

IMDb describes the movie as, “A former elite agent (Statham) takes on a two-tier mission: rescue a Chinese girl who has been abducted by the Triads, then use a highly desired safe combination to outwit the Russian Mafia, corrupt NYC officials, and the Triads themselves.”

Check out the trailer, looks the business.

Safe opens in the UK on the 2nd March 2012, and the US on the 27 April 2012. As usual, no word on the Australian release date yet.

Chuck Norris, Travolta and Van Damme join cast for The Expendables 2?

Lol, isn’t the headline above every action movie fan’s biggest wet dream? Sure, a lot of it’s all rumours at the moment, but can you imagine if it actually happened?

I’m still chuckling and shaking my head at the thought of Norris, Travolta and Van Damme joining… wait for it,  Jason Statham, Sly Stallone, Jet Li, Dolph Lungdren, Mickey Rourke, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Steve Austin for the upcoming action-orgy. Not to mention more fleshed-out roles for Bruce Willis (as the main villain in the sequel) and none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger! Shooting for The Expendables 2 apparently starts this September in Bulgaria.

What more can you ask for? Except a release date? 17th August  2012 for US/UK, how about that?

The All Action Hero Spotlight series

It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you a new regular feature on the All Action No Plot Movie Blog. This new feature will be called the All Action Hero (or Heroine) Spotlight. and as the name suggests, will feature a different action hero or heroine each time. But rather than attempt to recreate another Wikipedia Bio of the actor’s life and times, we’ll be giving our own very specific All Action No Plot slant to the piece. There will also certainly be a focus on the more action-orientated entries into their back catalogue.

This is how Gary Liew – one of this blog’s regular contributors, and the writer of our very first spotlight – describes the All Action Hero Spotlight:

“In attempting to produce an article focusing entirely on one actor, it is often required for one to have a solid grasp and understanding of said actor’s personality and the familiar characteristics, nuances and versatility the actor or actress exhibits in their work.

It is important to take into account their personal interests in the art form as well as their strengths and weaknesses in their performances. Not to mention acquiring a strong knowledge of the actor/ actresses’ filmography in order to make a fair dissection and dissemination of their craftsmanship, which is a monumental task considering the number of roles they have inhabited in the vast catalogue of films they have accrued over their lifetime.

However, being that this is the All Action, No Plot Movie Blog, I’ll attempt to do the subject of our All Action Hero Spotlight as much justice as I can, and much of my thesis will be directed at the actor/ actresses’ foray into the action genre, and how they have sustained the bankability of being an action star in honour of their tent-pole releases rolling out over the coming months.”

So, from established old-school action heroes like Bruce Willis, Sly Stallone and Arnie Schwarzenegger, to today’s stars such as Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and Jet Li, we’ll try to bring you those actors who love a lot of action in their movies, and not a lot of plot…

Killer Elite Trailer

Props to Daniel Fitzgerald for this one – it was filmed here in Melbourne and apparently some scenes were shot near Daniel’s house, hence his interest.

In fact, not sure how this one slipped through my net, what with current All Action No Plot favourite Jason Statham heading up the cast! Based on The Feather Men, a 1991 novel by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and boasting a cast that also includes Robert de Niro no less, as well as Clive Owen, and a plot about members of the SAS on a mission to save one of their own, this promises to be an all action ‘classic’.

Plus, add in the fact that a lot of scenes were filmed right here in Melbourne, and my excitement levels couldn’t get much higher!

Killer Elite has a US Release date of 23rd September, but no confirmed Australian release date just yet. Stay posted to the All Action No Plot Movie Blog for the release date as soon as it happens.
